Starting position
Unrack a barbell onto your upper traps and step back with your feet a few inches apart, narrower than shoulder width, toes forward or slightly out.
Brace your core and keep your chest up.
Bend your knees and let them travel forward over your toes as you sit straight down.
Descend until your thighs are at or just below parallel, heels flat.
Drive through mid-foot to stand, keeping the torso upright.
Breathing: Inhale and brace before descending, exhale near the top.
Coaching tips

Common mistakes
Heels lifting as the knees travel forward
Leaning forward to find balance
Loading it like a standard-stance squat
Knees caving together
Safety notes
Squat inside a rack with the safety arms just below your lowest depth.
Raise your heels on small plates or wear lifting shoes if ankle mobility limits depth.
