How to perform

Plate Car Driver movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Stand tall holding a weight plate at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, arms extended in front of you at about chest height.

  1. 1

Keep the arms long and the plate level with your chest or shoulders.

  2. 2

Turn the plate as far as you can to one side, like steering a car.

  3. 3

Turn it back through the middle and all the way to the other side.

  4. 4

Keep alternating without letting the plate drop.

Breathing: Breathe steadily throughout.

Coaching tips

  • Arms stay long

  • Turn with the arms, not the torso

  • Plate stays high

Common mistakes

  • Letting the plate sink toward the waist

  • Twisting the whole body

  • Shrugging the shoulders

Safety notes

  • Pick a plate you can hold at arm's length for the whole set.
