Starting position
Place your hands on a wall at shoulder height and walk your feet back until your body leans at about 45 degrees in a straight line, feet together and glutes tight.
Lift your right knee quickly toward the wall, toes pulled up, and pause.
Drive the foot straight down into the ground under your hip.
Repeat with the left leg, then once more with the right.
As the right foot strikes, switch rapidly, alternating legs as fast as you can for a few seconds.
Rest and repeat, starting with the other leg.
Breathing: Brace your trunk and take short, quick breaths during the rapid switches.
Coaching tips
Straight line, heel to head
Punch the knee up
Hammer the ground down
Common mistakes
Letting the hips sag or pike
Striking the ground in front of the hip
Standing too upright to feel the lean
Safety notes
Use a sturdy wall and shoes with good grip so your feet don't slide.
